He is a dynamic, engaging, and compassionate teacher who delights in seeing his students grow personally and spiritually. He has written many articles and 40 books all focused upon God’s expansive grace in the maturing years. Br. Jack Mostyn, CFC
Bro. Jack Mostyn, CFC has been a spiritual director for the past fifty-one years. Before that, he was a high school teacher and track coach for seventeen years, some of which was spent “on the missions.” Jack also served as the first Co-ordinator of Mission Integration at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. He convened the first Symposium of Trainers of Spiritual Directors. He was also president of Spiritual Directors International, a group he helped to found some thirty-one years ago. As a founding member of the Oaks of Justice Associates, he did extensive work with institutions as they strove for congruence between their founding vision and their current policies, practices and procedures of management and governance.
In 1999, Jack was elected to the Leadership Team of the Eastern American Province of the Congregation of Christian Brothers for two years. His term was interrupted when he was elected to the Congregation Leadership Team in Rome. In 2008, he was elected Deputy Congregation Leader. In 2008, Jack was diagnosed with A-fib, Type 2 Diabetes, and Parkinson’s. Becoming friends with the three of them has occupied his time and creativity. He enjoys the outdoors and is especially fond of the sea. He was particularly passionate about his 1987 Toyota Tercel 5 speed stick, which had around 187,000 miles on the odometer and was eleven years old. Unfortunately on election to the Province Leadership Team in 1999, he had to sell it.
