New Leader Workshop

The 2021 New Leader Workshop will be held online, March 1-4, 2021, 2-4:30 p.m.

This workshop will include four interactive sessions with essential tips and topics for major superiors and councilors new to leadership within the past two years, as well as those returning to leadership or about to start. Each session will be facilitated by CMSM and outside experts. Questions and dialogue are encouraged! (You can send questions in advance and privately for the presenters.)

Register here. The $95 registration includes up to three leaders from your province, monastery, abbey, or institute.

Program plan:

March 1: Leadership Essentials

Today’s kick-off session will include a discussion and conversation on serving as brother and leader; resources, including CMSM’s “10 in 30” guide for new leaders; and a discussion of personal leadership styles and how that impacts your ministry.

March 2: Managing Personnel Issues and Safeguarding 

A psychologist who specializes in working with religious and priests will cover common behavioral/psychological issues among male religious, and how to respond to help the individual and maintain healthy community life. Our team also will address  safeguarding responsibilities and common challenges for leaders, plus answer your questions.

March 3: Law, Finance and HR

Our experts will discuss and answer your questions on canon and civil law for religious institutes, what you need to know about human resource management, and finance essentials.

March 4: Communications and Formation

This final session will focus on formation responsibilities for you as monastic or provincial leader, including initial formation and handling decisions on moving men forward. In the second part of the session, we will focus on communications: setting your priorities, developing crisis plans, quick tips for media, and more.
