The ongoing violent conflict originating in Iraq and now exacerbated within Syria is just another tragic example in a long line of how violent responses create more wounds, bitterness, distrust, death, refugees, escalation and blow-back. Violence or obtaining military advantage is proven again and again to obstruct sustainable political solutions, whereas nonviolent resistance has shown to be at least ten times more likely (some argue 30 times) to lead to a sustainable political solution to a large-scale conflict. We have been at the forefront of the religious response to this issue as many religious live, serve, struggle, and have even died in this conflict.

We work closely with the Faith Forum on Middle East Policy as well as the broader Win Without War coalition on this issue.
