Justice and Peace Office
The Justice and Peace Office assists the Conference in fulfilling its mission to “provide a corporate influence in church and society,” and to “promote dialogue and collaboration with the conference of bishops and other major groups in church and society,” particularly regarding issues of social justice domestically, internationally, and within the church.
The Justice and Peace Office is a resource for CMSM members interested in social justice and peace-building. Through the Justice and Peace Office, U.S. religious are able to address issues of social justice, drawing on the rich experiences of religious both in the U.S. and those serving in mission. The national office, with its presence near Washington, DC, works in collaboration with member institutes, LCWR, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, other Catholic organizations, ecumenical and inter-religious organizations, and other human rights and social justice organizations, to analyze and respond effectively to various policies that affect the marginalized in the US and around the world.
The J/P Alert, a monthly publication of the Justice and Peace Office, is a brief, easy to read, resource that is sent to all CMSM members and formatted so that it can be easily distributed to others. Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation Promoters
The Justice and Peace Office also facilitates communications between JPIC’s from member institutes through meetings and electronic communications. If your role in your religious community is to be the JPIC promoter, please send your information to Eli to be added to the JPIC list-serve. This list-serve is for mutual sharing and coordination between JPIC promoters in men's religious institutes as well as with the CMSM JP director. Information includes resources, advocacy tips, questions, and suggestions related to JP issues. Frequency occurs more than the normal monthly J/P Alert to all CMSM members, but usually about once or twice a week at this stage.
