Arizona Immigration Pastoral

This is a CMSM World Merge message for all CMSM Members from Paul Lininger, OFM Conv.:

Dear Major Superiors and Members,

As you are aware, CMSM is involved in multiple issues and efforts on behalf of all our religious communities. One of our essential interests is promoting issues of peace and justice. Towards this end, Michael McNulty, SJ, through the JP Alert keeps our membership abreast of the latest news, issues and responses to the multiple problems and difficulties faced by so many in today's world when we fail to live up to our call as a People of God.

Occasionally, we receive additional correspondences which may be helpful to your members and/or your apostolic endeavors in the service of Christ and the Gospel. When possible we want to share those with you.

Attached to this world merge message is a recent pastoral letter from the Bishops of Arizona (also available on the Archdiocese of Phoenix web page) regarding "immigration" entitled, You Welcomed Me. The pastoral released on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is an excellent reminder to us all of the difficulties and problems faced by those who are seeking a better way or opportunity for life in the United States. Its message is timely as we seek to once again to recognize and welcome the stranger in our midst this Advent season.

This pastoral letter written in English and Spanish may serve as a catalyst for ongoing discussion regarding this important issue.

May our openness to God's presence in our midst during this season of Advent be a source of great renewal of our sense of mission and proclamation of the Gospel of Christ.

Pax et bonum...

Paul Lininger, OFM Conv CMSM Executive Director
