Purpose
The Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM) promotes the welfare, community life, ministry and mission of more than 20,000 vowed priests and brothers of 210 Catholic religious communities of men in the United States.

Members
Religious priests and brothers who are leaders of their orders in the United States.

Goals
1.  Provide a corporate influence and voice for these male religious in the United States through national and regional structures by: identifying key issues facing the Church and society; educating members on the consequences of the issues; assisting members to respond; and developing and implementing programs to influence the church and society on selected topics.
2. Promote dialogue and collaboration with other major groups in the church and society. This includes dialogues with the U.S. bishops; collaboration with the laity; and outreach to other religious organizations.
3. Support major superiors of men and serve as a resource for them in their roles as leaders of their communities. To achieve this goal, CMSM promotes a positive image of religious life; fosters networking and formation among major superiors; and engages in collaborative efforts with other religious institutes.

History
Founded in 1956, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men of the United States, Inc., received canonical status in 1959 by degree of the Sacred Congregation for Religious and Secular Institutes.
